Tissue culture plants, often called TC plants, are plants grown from a small piece of healthy parent plant tissue in a sterile laboratory environment. This method allows growers to produce strong, uniform plants with the same genetics as the original plant.
At Supercharged Sprouts, tissue cultures give plant lovers access to rare and highly sought-after varieties that are often difficult or expensive to find as mature plants.
The process starts with a carefully selected parent plant that shows strong growth, stable traits, and desirable characteristics like variegation.
A tiny piece of that plant is taken and placed into a sterile growing container filled with a nutrient-rich gel. Inside this controlled environment, the plant tissue begins to multiply and grow into multiple baby plants. Because everything happens in sterile conditions, tissue culture plants are grown without pests or disease.
Once the plants are large enough, they are removed from the lab containers, cleaned, and gradually acclimated to normal growing conditions before being sold.
Tissue culture plants offer several benefits for collectors and hobby growers:
They provide access to rare genetics at a more affordable price
They are grown in sterile conditions, reducing pest risks
They allow you to grow a plant from an early stage and watch it mature
They often produce uniform, predictable growth once established
Tissue culture plants are perfect for growers who enjoy the process and excitement of raising a plant from its early stages.
Tissue culture plants are typically smaller and require a short acclimation period as they adjust from lab conditions to normal humidity and airflow. With proper care, they quickly establish roots and begin producing new leaves just like traditionally grown plants.
We provide acclimated or starter tissue culture plants whenever possible and recommend following care instructions closely during the first few weeks to ensure success.
All tissue culture plants offered by Supercharged Sprouts are carefully handled, acclimated, and selected for health and growth potential. We aim to make tissue culture plants approachable, exciting, and rewarding for both new and experienced plant parents.
